A Letter to Myself at the End of Another Year

What a year this has been — so much change, both good and bad. Look back to where you started the year and look at where you are now. So very different!

You’ve experienced incredible loss this year, and look at how it has transformed you! You have started to learn how to maneuver your new path. You didn’t shut down in the face of loss, you stepped up and showed your strength. Some days are harder than others, I know, but you have expanded your coping skills and are taking care of yourself.

You’ve found your passion, and I am so excited for you! You’ve taken your interest in mental health and are touching lives. You have started back graduate school in social work, you began an internship working as a therapist, and you reach even more people by volunteering as a crisis counselor.

Writing has become your voice. You’ve always wanted to write, and here you are! More importantly, you are healing through your writing. You are taking control of your story and using it to help other people and heal yourself. That takes bravery, and your bravery has grown and absolutely flourished this year.

Throughout the year you have done a LOT of work on yourself. You have found your strength in helping others and have set clear goals for yourself. Life isn’t about never facing trials, it is about how you work through them and what you allow them to teach you. I wish you could see how much you’ve learned and how strong this year has made you, I know it doesn’t feel that way at times.

Continue to grow, you are on the right path. You are discovering your purpose, finding your calling, and are doing a great job with the situations that come your way.

I love you and I am so proud of you.
